1. GCC certification institute introduction

GCC is short for Gulf Cooperation Council composed of 7 member states and was established in Abu Dhabi on May, 25th, 1981. The member states are: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain and Republic of Yemen which was newly joined in 2009. The general secretariat is located in Riyadh, the capital city of Saudi Arabia. Supreme Council is the highest authority. It is composed by heads of the member states and every head will take turns to take the position as a chairman with a 1-year office term.

2. GCC certification introduction for vehicles and tyre products

GSO will conduct detection on vehicles and tyre products according to relevant gulf standards as well as issue GCC certificate since Jan, 1st, 2005 according to the decision GSO made at the Kuwait Ministers Council on Oct, 12th, 2004. The authorized GCC certificate will be valid in all GCC member states.

3. Validity term differentiates from GCC certificate’s categories

GCC conformity certificate for vehicles: from the signing date to end of December in the same year according to solar calendar.

GCC conformity certificate for other tyres: one year since the signing date.

4. Detection items

Passenger cars tyres detection items:

1. Appearance identification

2. Dimensional detection

3. Load index and expansive pressure

4. Tensile strength

5. Aging degree

6. Bursting strength

7. High-speed performance test

8. Endurance test

9. Tubeless tyres ring take-off test

10. Zugkraftklasse

11. Temperature level

Truck & bus tyres detection items:

1. Appearance identification

2. Dimensional detection

3. Bursting strength

4. Endurance test

5. Tyres’ identification

MPV, tyres identification for trucks, buses and trailers:

Should be clear and indelible; the minimum height for word is 2mm, No. is 4mm.

The following information should be included in Arabic or in English:

1. Tyres specification

2. Manufacturing date (4 numbers, the first two represent week, the later two represent year, height of the identification should be more than 4mm)

3. Original country

4. REGROOVABLE should be marked on tyres’ surface with its depth no less than 20mm if tyres are renovated

5. Manufacturers’ information or trade mark

Tyres identification for passenger cars

1. Manufacturers’ information or trade mark

2. Tyres specification

3. Original country

4. Tyres production date (4 numbers, the first two represent week, the later two represent year, height of the identification should be more than 4mm)

5. REINFORCED or EXTRA LOAD should be marked if tyres are fortified

6. BIAS-BELTED should be marked with its depth no less than 4mm for diagonal tyres, RADIAL for radial tyres.

7. Tubeless should be marked for tubeless tyres.

8. Temperature level and wearing coefficient should be marked.
