EU the latest toy directive (2009/48/EC) deeply analysis
EU toys safety directive 88/378/EEC is the first new method directive issued from 1988, which made the great achievement for the safety of the toys in EU market and eliminating the trade barriers among the member states，this directive has been modified only once up to now, so there are some insufficient places appear after 20 years operation.
EU started to consider the 88/378/EEC directive revision from 2003, and they issued three research reports about the 88/378/EEC directive revision by the end of 2007. And On Jan 25, 2008, they issued the directive revision proposal, the proposal was adopted by the EU committee on Dec 18, 2008, and published on the OJ on June 30, 2009.the new directive No. is: 2009/48/EC
After the new directive issued, each member countries should transfer the new directive as the national laws in the 18 months (before Jan 20, 2011). In addition, the directive has set the transitional period of 2 years, means the products conform to the old directive could continue launch to the market before July 20, 2011; and the transition period of chemical requirements terms is 4 years, means the products conform to the chemical requirements in the old directive, and not conform to the new directive chemical requirements also can be launched to the market before July.20, 2013.
